Now that the German tactician has declared he would be leaving Anfield in the summer, Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi is one of the contenders to take over at Liverpool starting in the upcoming season.

After revealing on Friday morning that he will be leaving Liverpool at the conclusion of the current season, many believe Italian coach De Zerbi will take Klopp’s position on the Reds’ bench.

Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, who is presently in charge of Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen—the only team in Germany’s top flight without a loss this season—is another excellent contender for the position. James Lewer of Sky Sport claims that the former Spain international is the “hot favorite” for the position.

De Zerbi is still brought up, though, and Liverpool supporters are already discussing who Klopp’s ideal successor might be. Almost 2,000 times have De Zerbi been discussed on X (previously Twitter) since the current Reds manager declared his departure.

According to journalist Chris Bascombe, “no opponent has won more praise than De Zerbi from Klopp,” indicating that the Italian has a good chance of winning the position.

Former Sassuolo coach De Zerbi was hired by Brighton in September 2022, and during his 68 games in charge of the Seagulls, he has won 32 of them.
